  • Some classes require kits. Fees may vary, but current guide is $7.00 per student for half-day classes and $12.00 per student for full-day classes; kit fees payable to instructor on the day of class, one kit per student.

  • Some classes require patterns supplied by instructor, at $2.00 per student pattern fee. Copyright for all patterns and hand-outs remains with Mary L. Hackett.

TRUNK SHOWS: Due to the bulk of quilts, trunk shows available only within driving distance of Mary's home. If sponsoring group would like to investigate cost of shipping quilts to the venue, this is negotiable.

WORKSHOPS: Minimum of one full day (or equivalent, such as lecture and 3-hour class or two 3-hour classes) per engagement.

LECTURES: May be scheduled in conjunction with the minimum one full day of workshops (example: the night before, or the evening after). Commitments for a single lecture will be made only within a 200-mile radius of Carterville, Illinois, with an option for overnight accommodations, and a mileage fee for round-trip auto transportation will be charged. [Mileage rate for 2010 is fifty cents.] Required for lectures: carousel projector with remote control, darkened room with screen or blank light-colored wall [PowerPoint presentation in progress, requiring a digital projector.]; podium with microphone and reading lamp; clean tables to display Mary's quilts, portfolio materials, and books. A full-size quilt display rack is helpful but not required.

BOOKING: One Hundred-dollar ($100.00) deposit and signed Contract required. Supply list available online within 30 days of the booked event, copies to be made and distributed by Sponsor. Copies of handouts are also to be made by Sponsor, from originals supplied by Mary.

TRAVEL EXPENSES*: Sponsor shall be responsible for my cost of round-trip economy airfare, fares or transportation from airport to destination and return, lodging, and all meals. Lodging with a member of the sponsoring group is acceptable in a private room of a non-smoking residence.
When flying, I will obtain the lowest-priced flight available, and Sponsor must agree to reimburse me immediately upon notice of the amount so that I will not incur financing costs.
Sponsor will pay the cost of shipping (when necessary) sample quilts, class samples, and kits both ways; I will pay the cost of shipping books both ways.

At instructor's discretion, I may provide automobile transportation at the current rate, based on actual mileage driven. In those circumstances, shipping may not be necessary. Train travel is negotiable for regional bookings.

CLASSROOM REQUIREMENTS*: Twenty (20) or fewer students preferred for optimum creative experience. Sponsor may request more slots, but understand that it is difficult to serve more students adequately.

Optimal physical environment: One 6-foot work table is required for every two students. Also adequate lighting, multiple-plug outlets and extension cords, ironing board and iron, and a large cutting mat with rulers and sharp rotary cutters. A remote-controlled slide projector that accepts a carousel is needed for most classes, plus a projection screen or white wall and ability to darken the room. [PowerPoint presentation in progress, requiring a digital projector.] Two 6-foot tables are needed for instructor's displays. Please provide an ample supply of drinking water. If available, a clip-on swing-arm lamp and/or overhead projector will make machine demonstrations more effective. A pinnable planning board about 4 feet square and a dry-erase board on an easel are helpful to students and very much appreciated.

One classroom assistant is requested for handouts, slide arrangements, etc. Others may be requested to help display and handle quilts, or to monitor book sales.

When traveling by air or train, I prefer a Pfaff sewing machine for demonstrations, with bobbins and embroidery foot. Your local Pfaff dealer may be happy to provide a machine, or a member of the sponsoring organization may loan one.

CANCELLATION FEE of $100.00 if Sponsor cancels less than 60 days prior to scheduled engagement. In addition, Sponsor must reimburse Mary any expenses already incurred in preparation for its specific event.
